Meet Taylor!
Taylor Taylor Harrisonburg Va

Tell me about Luna Wellness Co.

After becoming a mother, I felt this deep desire to care for and support women on their journey into and through Motherhood.

Luna Wellness Co. is a non-traditional Chiropractic practice located in Bridgewater (moved from Loudoun County this past summer 2022!) that incorporates soft tissue therapy, manipulation, rehab, and lifestyle modifications in order to provide relief and recovery for a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints. I have a background in sports chiropractic and still enjoy working with female athletes of all kinds, but my business pivoted after becoming a mother.

I am Webster, BirthFit and Spinning Babies certified. I have practiced Active Release Techniques for the past 8 years.

Tell me about your specific service and how it benefits expectant and new moms and their families.

I believe in customizing my clients’ treatment plans specifically for them. I do not believe in clients becoming dependent on my care, but instead I empower my patients to heal and thrive outside of the treatment room.

Along with feeling better and moving better, I love being a sounding board for those on their journey into motherhood. I have a passion for working collaboratively with other providers in the area and help to get my clients as resourced as possible from pre-conception to postpartum and beyond.

I also work with infants. My work is super gentle. The pressure that I use is similar to that used to check the ripeness of a tomato. Chiropractic care can be helpful for those having trouble latching, turning their head one way or the other, digestive issues, etc.

What specific areas do you serve? How far do you travel?

My office is located in Bridgewater, Virginia, but I do offer virtual consults for those who prefer not to travel into the office.

How many years of experience do you have?

I have been practicing for about 8 years. I opened LWC 4 years ago and immediately started specializing in women’s health.

How soon in their pregnancy should an expectant mother reach out to you?

An expectant mother can reach out at any time. I am trained and experienced in working with those in their first trimester. I always recommend scheduling at least one visit during pregnancy, simply to learn what types of things you can do on your own to help prepare for an ease-filled delivery.  For those looking to receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy, I generally recommend scheduling treatment once every 3-4 weeks (if you are not experiencing pain) until about 34 weeks. I then recommend a visit every 1-2 weeks to help prepare your body for delivery.

Some of my patients come throughout the entirety of their pregnancy and others come in just once before delivery. You choose what feels best for your body.

What can a client expect from their first experience with you?

This is where I focus on understanding what each client specifically needs so we aren’t simply providing a band-aid approach.
The initial visit is 1 hour long. Clients will receive care at this first visit. We begin with an initial history intake where clients get to share and I ask some follow-up questions. I then perform an exam to see where I need to focus our time together. I provide soft tissue therapy to help loosen any areas that are causing trouble. I may mobilize joints that are not moving optimally, however, I do not do much manipulation during pregnancy because the joints and ligaments are already loose due to the hormone relaxin. I spend most of my time focusing on why the muscles surrounding these areas get so tight. I loosen them, but I then spend quite a bit of time providing the client with stability type movements to help their body feel safe. Core and pelvic floor stability is so important in the prevention of aches and pains during pregnancy. This is why when clients receive a massage, they may find that they feel tight again a couple of days later – The tight muscles are ultimately trying to protect the body.

Do you have any upcoming promotions or events?

I will be hosting a virtual workshop on Thursday, May 11th at 7pm called Preventing Injury in the Postpartum Period. I discuss ways that you can prevent injury and slowly regain your strength in the early months postpartum. We will discuss postural alterations, various movements to add into your day as well as how soon you can return to physical activity. We will lightly touch on nutrition to support your healing tissues. There will be time for a Q/A session.

This workshop is great for those at any stage in their perinatal journey. A recording can be sent to those who are unable to attend live. You can register here!

Is there anything else you want to share?

Don’t settle! Find your community. It is the heart of what allows us to thrive in motherhood and beyond.

Over the course of my life and specifically during my time as a mother, I think it is so incredibly important to remember that we are our own best advocates. At the end of the day, we have an inner guide that allows us to feel what is best for us and our children. As mothers, we need to surround ourselves with support. If you visit a doctor’s office or specialist’s office and don’t feel heard or seen, advocate for yourself! Seek alternative options. There are so many amazing women’s health providers and specialists in the Valley.

I have put a lot of time and effort into finding those who are truly client-centered and focused. I am quite picky about who I partner with and who I refer to because I need to know that my clients will receive the best care and services. I am so grateful to have met Kelly, because I truly feel that she goes above and beyond to make sure that her clients are well cared for.
