How to Survive Your Family Session | Harrisonburg VA Family Photographer
Are you on the fence about booking a photography session this year? Does the thought give you anxiety because you really want to have updated photos of your kids and family, but feel like it’s going to be a hassle to talk your husband into it or keep your kids in line for long enough to get any good shots? Feeling like you need to lose a few pounds first or that you don’t have anything “picture worthy” to wear?
I get it! My mind races through all these thoughts too before booking a session for my family. Rest assured that it’s not up to you to do the hard work, or to make your kids cooperate. A well skilled and seasoned photographer knows how to work playfully with your children and connect with them to make the experience fun!
All you’ll need to do is show up and love on your family which will inevitably produce authentic smiles and bring out personality – not forced expressions. Seeing your child(ren) having an enjoyable experience will not only reduce your stress on session day but allow you to simply enjoy that time with your family knowing that those moments and milestones will be captured for always.
It’s a beautiful thing when dads are fully on board with booking a family session, but let’s be real, it’s not usually at the top of their priority list and some may take more convincing. They may even have an expectation that they must sit and fake smile for an hour but let me just tell you that this perception is just not true! My goal is to create a fun experience for everyone, not just the kids. My favorites are often the shots where dad isn’t even looking at the camera but interacting playfully and lovingly with his family.
You and your family will be so thankful that you chose to capture memories of your kids at this current stage; they’re only this age once and grow and change so quickly! When your children look back on these images, they will see and remember the love that you share as a family, not the superficial features that tend to weigh us down and keep us from pursuing the important things.
Whether it be with what to wear or how to prepare, I’m here to help! You have a vision – I’m here to help you create it!
